How This Project Came to Be
Site & Context
Facing the luminous curve of the Grand Canal, opposite Santa Maria della Salute, this historic Venetian palazzo was conceived as a dialogue between place, craftsmanship, and time. The refurbishment was approached as a complete reinvention: architectural, decorative, and emotional, guided by a deep respect for Venice’s legacy of beauty and savoir-faire. Every element was carefully rethought, restored, or newly created to ensure that the palazzo would feel both rooted in history and unmistakably contemporary. Textiles played a defining role in shaping the interiors. The rooms are wrapped in fabrics by Rubelli, whose centuries-old Venetian heritage brought depth, warmth, and quiet grandeur to walls, curtains, and upholstery. Their patterns and textures echo the city itself; water, light, and stone translated into woven form. At the heart of the dining room stands a bespoke table, entirely designed for this palazzo and brought to life by master Murano glass artisans. Made locally, island-born and hand-crafted, it reflects Venice’s extraordinary glassmaking tradition while existing as a contemporary sculptural piece. The same artisans collaborated on chandeliers and glassware, allowing light to move through the rooms with the unmistakable shimmer of Murano craftsmanship. The table is set with custom plates and silverware created by Ercuis Reynaud, designed exclusively for the project. Each piece was developed to complement the architecture and the glass, combining French precision with Venetian refinement. Music finds its place in the palazzo through a bespoke piano by Pleyel. Designed as much as an object as an instrument, it anchors the salon as a symbol of cultured living, where sound, craftsmanship, and design converge. This refurbishment was not about decoration alone, but about orchestration: of artisans, materials, and traditions. The palazzo now lives as a contemporary Venetian residence, deeply local, rigorously crafted, and quietly monumental where every view toward Santa Maria della Salute is mirrored by an interior equally rich in history and intention.
