How This Project Came to Be

Site & Context

Located in the heart of Beirut, this project is the transformation of a private house into an intimate boutique hotel—one that reflects the layered identity of the city itself: cultivated, resilient, and unmistakably elegant. The original building possessed generous proportions and a quiet residential soul. The intervention was conceived not to overwrite that spirit, but to refine it—elevating domestic architecture into hospitality while preserving warmth, discretion, and a sense of belonging. The ambition was clear: to create a place that feels less like a hotel and more like a beautifully lived house, open to guests. The arrival sequence sets the tone. The lobby unfolds as a calm, composed interior where symmetry, soft light, and material restraint create an immediate sense of ease. Stone floors establish solidity, while deep green walls and brass-accented lighting introduce warmth and identity. Rather than grandeur, the space favors balance and intimacy—an invitation rather than a statement. Circulation areas are conceived as moments rather than transitions. A gallery-like hallway becomes a place of pause, where art and architecture converse quietly. Framed works line the walls, turning movement into experience and reinforcing the idea that this hotel is meant to be discovered slowly, room by room. The breakfast room is designed as a garden-like refuge within the city. Striped canopies soften the ceiling line, reminiscent of Mediterranean terraces. Lush greenery and carefully curated decorative elements blur the boundary between indoors and outdoors, transforming the morning ritual into a sensory experience—light filtered, sounds softened, time slowed. Guest rooms are each designed as private sanctuaries. While unified by proportion and material consistency, every room carries its own subtle personality through wallpaper, colour, and light. Headboards are architectural, wallpapers introduce landscape and depth, and lighting is layered and gentle. Comfort is uncompromising, but never ostentatious. Furniture throughout the house balances classic forms with contemporary refinement. Nothing feels staged or neutral; every piece appears chosen rather than specified. The palette moves between soft creams, olive greens, warm woods, and muted golds—echoing Beirut’s light and its timeless Mediterranean elegance. What defines this project is its scale and intention. It is not a hotel designed for anonymity, but for recognition. Guests are meant to feel hosted, not accommodated. The building’s former domestic life remains present, transformed into a refined hospitality experience that values discretion over display. This Beirut house, reimagined as a boutique hotel, becomes a quiet landmark—not through spectacle, but through atmosphere. A place where architecture serves comfort, memory, and continuity, offering a rare sense of calm at the center of a vibrant city.
